The Big Bad Garden in All its Glory

So the garden (as far as I can tell) is completely planted for the season.  Included are 20 garlic plants, 8 san marzano plum tomatoes, 8 sungold tomatoes, 6 romaine lettuce, 6 green leaf lettuce, 6 orange bell peppers, 6 genovese basil, 2 red peppers, 2 german chamomile, 1 sage, 1, rosemary, 1 oregano, 1 cilantro, 1 chive, 1 pineapple sage and 1 pickling cucumber.

Peppers

Tomatoes...soon to be staked

Herbs, several of which I grew from seed!

Loads o' lettuce

The lone pickling cucumber

We've been harvesting a bunch of lettuce and just got all 20 scapes off the garlic plants.  I still can't believe how early they came in...I'm thinking the garlic itself might be ready to harvest starting at the end of this month.

Speaking of early harvests, it's just about strawberry season (SQUEE!!!!)  and I've printed out a list of places in our area that do pick your own.  I fully intend to pick the sh*t out of some fields this year, and hopefully try making jam for the first time.

*Sigh*, I love this time of year!

  1. We've made tons of jam so far this year- strawberry, blackberry, and plum. It's pretty easy, just follow the directions in the box of pectin that you get. Are you planning on hot-water canning yours, or just freezing it? We put ours in glass jars and can them so we can keep them in the pantry.

  2. I plan on hot-water canning. Cynthia from MEES and I talked about getting together to do it. :)

  3. You really need to add an email-follow widget so I know when you post! Otherwise, I'll just send you random notes a month later and tell you how much I love your blog. :)

None of the nurseries near us carry garlic for planing. What's up with that??

    1. What IS up with that?!? I know seed garlic usually isn't available until the fall, do they still not carry it then? If not, I can pick some up for you. :) We've gotten ours from the same farmer two years in a row and it's been great.

As far as an email widget goes, I'm clueless on how to do that, though I do see a "subscribe by email" link under my comment post...but maybe that's only for comments? Teach me wise sage of the interwebs!
